A Leitrim Wake

Step back in time and experience a re-enactment of a traditional 1950s/60s wake in an old Faughnan family home, preserved just as it was when the family left in 1972. The home remains filled with original furniture, antique pieces, oil lamps, 1950s-style TVs, wireless radios, and record players, creating an authentic atmosphere.

The event is based on the memories of a renowned 86-year-old local man who will share firsthand stories of how wakes were conducted in the home. Local neighbors will take on roles such as family members, a priest, criers, an undertaker, and a local politician, bringing the past to life.

Wakes were a celebration of life, and this event will honor that tradition with live music by the Billy Faughnan Band from London (originally from Annaduff) and light refreshments. The re-enactment will be filmed and made available online.
